Documentation And Research

Activities of the Documentation and Research Department

The Documentation and Research Department of Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) carry out one of the main objectives of the AAPP, which is to monitor and document the situation of political prisoners and the ongoing human rights violations occurring across Burma. Our documentation and research department diligently monitors the ever-changing political landscape in Burma, seeking out accounts of human rights violations, including prison conditions and the ongoing arrests of political activists.

Another activity of our team is compiling the daily comprehensive figures detailing the arrests, sentencings, and releases of political activists and civilians, and publishing these on the AAPP’s Database on time. We also update these figures on a weekly and a monthly basis.

Moreover, we have released the daily briefing since the coup, which reports not only on the severe human rights violations occurring across the States and Regions of Burma but also on the total arrests, detentions, releases, and killings of political prisoners and civilians.

Furthermore, a monthly data dashboard has detailed the above figures of numbers and the monthly chronology report, akin to the daily briefing, documents the various incidents of human rights violations committed by the junta.

In addition, a thematic report, published once every three months, details and analyzes incidents in which the junta has conducted targeted attacks on civilians.

The team also uses the domestic networks of the AAPP to verify the information of political prisoners for its clarity and accuracy, and compiles key documents on political prisoners in Burma to continue its advocacy for political prisoners.

AAPP offers a reliable source of information and gives valuable advice and opinions to international researchers, advisers, organizations, and journalists working on the protection of human rights in Burma.
