Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,120) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,580) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,334) are currently in detention, (11,008) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from July 1 to August 22, 2025, (119) men in total were killed by the junta across the country, including (20) boys under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among the (119) deceased, Sagaing Region records the highest number of fatalities with (27) men killed. Among the (119) deaths, (7) men were killed by the junta’s gunfire. 

On August 20, while inspecting civilians near the clock tower in Hakha Township, Chin State, junta forces opened fire on Salai Sang Khia, who was riding a motorbike, for allegedly failing to stop when ordered. He was shot in the stomach and leg, causing him to fall from the motorbike. The junta forces then struck his head with their guns and conducted searches and questioned him. He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries at 9 p.m. that day. Salai Sang Khia was a resident of Ti Senb Village, Surngen Village Tract, Thantlang Township, Chin State.
