Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 1 August 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,029) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (29,484) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,251) are currently in detention, (10,939) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
Exactly four and a half years after their unjust coup, the junta has rebranded itself as the National Security and Peace Commission and is attempting to gain control over state power. Additionally, on the night of July 31, a state of emergency was declared in 63 townships across nine regions and states, and martial law was imposed. During this four-and-a-half-year period, around 30,000 people were arrested and detained by the junta, and more than 7,000 were killed. Among them, (2,152) people died after being arrested, including (370) who died in official detention centers, including prisons, police stations, and interrogation centers. These numbers are based only on the most recent and verified data, and the actual figures on the ground are likely to be much higher.
Detainees are facing numerous difficulties in prison, including inadequate healthcare, insufficient food, frequent transfers between facilities, overcrowding and severe persecution.
