Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,976)people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (29,410) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,188) are currently in detention, (10,888) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
The junta has been deliberately torturing and killing political prisoners, resulting in a total of (78) political prisoners dying in prison since the beginning of 2025. Of these victims, (59) died due to the Sagaing Earthquake in March, (18) died from a lack of adequate medical care, and (1) died after being shot inside the prison.
Pyae Sone Aung, a member of the Bilin Township Executive Committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party, was serving a six-year sentence in Thaton Prison, located in Thaton Township, Mon State. He suffered from hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease, but was denied proper medical treatment. He died at approximately 1:00 p.m. on July 19, 2025. His body was not returned to his family and was cremated inside the prison later that same evening.
In addition, in the second week of July, around 20 political prisoners who had completed their sentences and were released from Pathein Prison were rearrested at the prison gate. They were subsequently charged under sections of the Counter-Terrorism Law. Furthermore, around 600 political prisoners from Nyaungshwe Prison (Taung Lay Lone Prison) in Shan State were being transferred to Meiktila and Lashio Prisons.
