Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,871) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,370) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,193) are currently in detention, (10,890) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Prison staff have reportedly increased their torture and abuse of political prisoners in Kyaikmaraw Prison, located in Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State. Over the past week, thousands of civilians have been displaced by junta forces’ attacks on villages in Pale Township, Sagaing Region, and they are in dire need of food and medicine. Similarly, civilians have been fleeing their homes as junta forces have launched an offensive into Salin Township, Magway Region, burning down houses and arresting civilians in the process.

In addition, on July 1, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing in Thone Se Village, Nawnghkio Township, Shan State, killing three civilians and destroying two monasteries. On July 3, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing and fired heavy weaponry into Waw Ywar Thit Village, Madaya Township, Mandalay Region, killing two people, including a child, and injuring around 20 others. On July 4, junta forces also conducted an aerial bombing at a school in Pyin Taw Ward, Ann Township, Rakhine State, destroying the school buildings.
