Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 3 March 2025
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,366) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (28,724) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,965) are currently in detention, (10,488) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
Political prisoners across the country continue to face oppression through restrictions on parcel deliveries, bans on prison visits, and inadequate medical care. In Kyaikmaraw Prison, Mon State, prison authorities have stopped allowing families to send parcels to political inmates at the rate that was previously allowed. Now, they only permit a small number of parcels. They have also imposed restrictions on the delivery of books. In Insein Prison, Yangon Region, after speaking out against the deprivation of prisoners’ rights during a visit by the Human Rights Commission, three political inmates—trade union leader Thet Hnin Aung, photojournalist Sai Zaw Thike, and Naing Win—were taken to the prison’s interrogation center, where they were tortured and beaten before being placed in solitary confinement. Additionally, in February, three political prisoners died in detention inside Burma’s prisons and police stations after being arrested by the junta, due to a lack of adequate medical care.
Meanwhile, the civilian death toll from the junta’s airstrikes continues to rise daily. According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), 22 civilian deaths were confirmed, with an additional 8 unconfirmed, in the last week of February.
