According to monitoring by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, in recent weeks, junta forces have been increasingly targeting civilian areas and religious buildings across the country by carrying out aerial attacks against them. These attacks have resulted in extensive damages and injuries. On August 12, junta forces aerially bombarded Ramthlo Village in Falam Township, Chin State, even in the absence of any clashes in the area. This resulted in the destruction of a Baptist church and some houses, while also injuring seven local civilians.
Additionally, due to the junta’s incessant shelling and gunfire, heavy damages were recorded in civilian areas. On August 11, junta forces fired artillery shells at Setkant Village in Kale Town, Sagaing Region, destroying a Christian church and some houses.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January to August 14, 2023, (246) women were killed across the country by the junta, with Sagaing Region recording the highest number of deaths, totalling (135) within the region. Among the (246) women, (93) women were killed by airstrikes and (74) women were killed due to artillery attacks.
AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
