Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,220) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
It is verified that one detainee in prisons has been sentenced to death in April, 2023. Since the coup, a total of (21,242) people were arrested and among them (17,375) are currently under detention, (5,539) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (109) post-coup death row prisoners as of April 6, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (151) people who have been sentenced to death. (3,845) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on April 3, the Indaw Town Military Tribunal sentenced CDM teacher Thein Hla and vendors Khin Pyae Pyae Htun and Aye Aye to life imprisonment under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law; they were sentenced concurrently under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. On March 5, junta forces arrested three women in their houses in Indaw Town, Sagaing Region, for allegedly supporting the People’s Defence Force.
In addition, on April 3 and 4, around 100 junta personnel raided and set fire to Inn Lel Gyi Village in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region. Then the personnel killed two locals: Wa Li and Htay Maung. On April 4, the body of Wa Li was discovered in the village with a gunshot wound; he had suffered from a mental illness. On April 5, the burnt body of Htay Maung, with his hands tied behind his back, was found in the village.
