Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,026) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.
Since the coup, a total of (15,995) people are currently under detention, (4,537) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (103) post-coup death row prisoners as of February 23, 2023. (120) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (41) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (144) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail, and (3,833) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on February 21 at 12:30 a.m., junta soldiers shot and killed Than Oo, who ran a brickmaking business. He was shot near Thar Si Village, where he lived, in Gyobingauk Township, Bago Region. He was returning home after attending a performance of a Burmese traditional orchestra during a special ceremony for the placing of a religious umbrella on a pagoda. The ceremony was held at Bar Kha Yar Monastery in Nwe Khwe Ward, Gyobingauk Township. At around 6 a.m., junta soldiers took his body to the 100-Bed Hospital in Pyay Town.
In addition, on the morning of February 21, the junta arrested three teenagers from Pakokku Township, Magway Region, accusing them of being PDF members. The three teenagers are Kyaw Zaw Hein, age 16; Ye Linn Aung, 17; and Phoe Thingyan, 17. After arresting them, the junta took them to the Pakokku Township Police Station and are now interrogating them. Kyaw Zaw Hein and Ye Linn Aung were arrested while they were walking on Pakokku-Myaing Road. The location of Phoe Thingyan’s arrest has not been verified yet. Phoe Thingyan is a resident of No. 3 Ward in Pakokku Town.
