Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,276) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,711) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,430) are currently in detention, (11,103) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to observations by the Documentation and Research Department of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), junta forces killed around 30 people in the past week in targeted attacks on civilians. On September 15, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing on a monastery in Se Taw Village, Madaya Township, Mandalay Region, killing a monk and two internally displaced persons (IDPs). On September 16, six people were killed when high-explosive bombs were dropped on Oke Kan and Di Yar Villages in the same township. On September 17, two villagers were killed when an airstrike hit Way Di Village, Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Region. On the same day, a child was killed when heavy weaponry struck Seik Mu Village, Hpakant Township, Kachin State.

In addition, on September 18, junta forces bombed a monastery in Kyauk Taing Village, Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, killing a novice. On September 19, a grandfather and two grandsons from Thein Taw Village were traveling on a sidecar motorcycle when they encountered patrolling junta forces, who opened fire, killing two and injuring one. On the same day, a drone bombing was carried out on Htone Bo Village in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, despite no clashes occurring, killing a mother and her son.
