Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 1 September 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,169)people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,613) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,352) are currently in detention, (11,027) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

In the past week, since August 23, junta forces have launched an offensive into Kyi Kyin Village, Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, killing at least eight civilians, arresting others, and burning down homes. On August 25, junta forces invaded villages in Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, and set fire to around 100 homes in Saw Hpyar Village and Moe Shwe Kone Village, killing two locals.

Junta forces also carried out artillery and air strikes against civilians. On August 28, they conducted a bombing using a drone, into Daung Gyi Village in Okpho Township, Bago Region, killing a mother and her child. On August 29, two civilians were killed in a junta drone bombing on Za Yat Khin Village in Kyauktaga Township. On the same day, two people were killed when junta forces carried out a drone bombing in Monglon, Kyaukme Township, Shan State. In addition, junta forces conducted airstrikes on Ngar Kin Village, Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region, on August 30, and on Nga Ta Yaw Village, Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, on August 31, killing seven people, including a nun, in those areas.
