Date – 18 August 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,074) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

Since the coup, a total of (29,555) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,314) are currently in detention, (10,990) of whom are serving sentences.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

In August 2025, prison authorities in Maubin Prison, Ayeyarwady Region, forced inmates, including political prisoners, to perform excessive labor. Prison staff and the Jailor beat the inmates who said they could not work due to poor health. At least 20 inmates were injured from the beatings, and they were denied both medical treatment and prison visits from their family members.

Similarly, the junta has continued carrying out heavy airstrikes targeting civilians across the country. As a result, more than two dozen civilians were killed in airstrikes on Mogoke Township, Mandalay Region, on August 14 and 17. Two displaced civilians were also killed in a drone attack on Gaw Tu Village, Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine State, on August 16. In addition, on August 17, an airstrike on Mawchee Area, Hpasawng Township, Kayah State, killed 22 civilians, including children, and injured many more.
