Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,030) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,492) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,257) are currently in detention, (10,943) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

The junta has been deliberately targeting civilians in its attacks. On July 29, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing and fired heavy artillery at villages in Chaung-U Township and Kanbalu Township in Sagaing Region, killing around 10 civilians. On July 30, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing using fighter jet aircraft in Kutkai Township, Shan State, killing six people, including a child. On the same day, they also shelled Naung Pein Village in Kyaukme Township, Shan State, with heavy weaponry, resulting in the death of a monk. Additionally, on that same day, junta forces bombed a monastery in Thad Wat Htein Village, Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine State, completely destroying the building.

Furthermore, junta forces have continued airstrikes in Mogoke Town, Mandalay Region—killing six civilians on July 29, and killing more than a dozen people in another airstrike on August 2.
