Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,520) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (29,044) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,168) are currently in detention, (10,757) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
On the Burmese New Year’s Day of 2025, the junta announced the release of (4,893) inmates from prisons across the country. The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) has been monitoring the release of political prisoners among those freed. As of 4 p.m. today, data collected confirms that approximately (380) political prisoners have been released from (21) prisons, with (38) of them identified by name.
On the other hand, while attempting to present a positive image to the international community through these prisoner releases, the junta has continued its aerial bombings and heavy artillery attacks in the Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, and Tanintharyi Regions, as well as in Kayin, Rakhine, and Chin States. The AAPP has confirmed that these attacks resulted in the deaths of (21) civilians identified by name, along with (70) other civilians whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
