Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,266) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (700) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.
Since the coup, a total of (25,618) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,820) are currently in detention, (8,392) of whom are serving sentences.
There are a total of (120) post-coup death row prisoners as of December 26, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (163) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,798) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to monitoring by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, during the resurgent clashes in Rakhine State, junta forces carried out mass arrests of civilians and attacked civilian areas with heavy weaponry from their army and navy. These actions occurred whether during clashes or even in the absence of ongoing clashes, resulting in civilian casualties. The majority of locals had to flee for safety. On December 25, an artillery shell fired by junta forces exploded on an archaeological museum at Nan Taw Yar Hill in Mrauk-U Town, Rakhine State, destroying the building along with historical artifacts.
Moreover, in recent weeks, junta forces launched offensive operations in Sagaing Region and set fire to the houses of the locals. Additionally, there were aerial attacks on schools and civilian areas. Consequently, civilians, including children, were injured, and houses were destroyed.
AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
