Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,212) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (17,355) people are currently under detention, (5,520) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (108) post-coup death row prisoners as of April 5, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (150) people who have been sentenced to death. (3,845) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on April 3, the Indaw Town Military Tribunal sentenced Aye Min Tun to life imprisonment under Sections 50(j) and 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. He is from Nat Ma Hote Ka Lay Village in Indaw Township, Sagaing Region. On March 5, junta forces arrested him in Nar Ra Khaung Village, Indaw Township, for allegedly being involved with the People’s Defence Force.
In addition, on April 1, around 80 junta personnel raided the area near Letpadaung Mountain Copper Mine in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region. The junta forces shot Toe Gyi dead and arrested Naing. Then on April 3, Naing’s body was discovered in a field one mile away from Kan Kone Village. His body had injuries from being tortured. Both Toe Gyi and Naing were locals of Kan Kone Village.
