Activities of the Assistance Department
The Assistance Department of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners is providing social support in any way possible to help ensure the psychological well-being and basic living needs of political prisoners, former political prisoners, and their families. In addition, the department also provides assistance for the families of fallen heroes, as well as security and healthcare support for those involved in the anti-dictatorship movement.
The department primarily focuses on providing livelihood support to political prisoners in various prisons and providing healthcare assistance to current political prisoners as well as former political prisoners who have been released. Additionally, it provides support to the family members of fallen heroes. It also provides assistance regarding the security and healthcare of anti-military dictatorship activists within the country.
The department works to facilitate the living and food needs of human rights defenders who have had to flee to the Thai – Myanmar border due to their opposition to the military dictatorship and creates safe houses for anti-military dictatorship activists inside the country based on funding.
While providing such assistance, the department sends information obtained through assistance networks in various prisons to the Documentation and Research Department. Furthermore, it coordinates with these assistance networks to verify human rights violation data that requires confirmation by the Documentation and Research Department.
